Cruise Whitsundays

Excursion / Last updated 4 years, 8 months ago

Cruise Whitsundays can transport your students (Years 1-12) by high-speed catamaran to our floating pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef. Once everyone has disembarked, we’ll shape their Great Barrier Reef experience to ensure that each student has a fantastic time exploring the reef and we’ll make sure that your learning objectives are met too.

With more than 150 different types of coral, around 200 different types of fish and plenty of enthusiastic Cruise Whitsundays experts on site, the Cruise Whitsundays innovative and spacious reef pontoon is the perfect venue for your schools Great Barrier Reef excursion.

We provide transportation to and from the reef, a sumptuous buffet lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea and full access to our facilities, including the semi-submersible, underwater viewing chamber, his and her changing rooms, fresh water showers, sundeck and snorkelling activities (all gear provided).

In addition to this, we can also provide a range of customisable experiences, including informative talks from our Marine Biologist and Reef Experts, interactive activities and investigation challenges. We also have a lifeguard on duty to ensure that each Great Barrier Reef experience is a safe one.

The pontoon is adjacent to coral walls, the length of which can be explored. The site has its own ecosystem with magnificent corals and a diversity of marine life found only in sheltered areas, providing a unique world for your students to explore. The prolific fish life will surprise and delight them - especially the giant groper!

Getting There

We operate a range of purpose-built reef vessels, designed with the Great Barrier Reef in mind. All are high-speed catamarans with spacious air-conditioned lounges, large outer viewing decks, bars serving refreshments and comfortable seating. The journey to and from the reef is all part of the experience. Students will pass spectacular islands and bays and at certain times of the year they'll have the chance to spot whales and other wild life.

Caring for the Environment

Cruise Whitsundays has a strong environmental ethic. We believe the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsundays natural environment are the most important aspects of our operation. We want to ensure the reef will be preserved for the future, so our activities and operations are designed to follow world's-best environmental practices. Cruise Whitsundays has an Advanced Eco Certificate for Great Barrier Reef Adventures.

What To Bring

The students will need to bring their sun protective gear, including their hat and sunscreen, swimwear and towel, a light jacket/sweater during the cooler months, money for optional purchases and drinks, their pencil case (depending on the activities selected), their sense of fun and a camera to capture their reef memories.
