Queensland Association of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (QATESOL) is Queensland’s only professional association concerned primarily with the teaching of English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) across primary, secondary and tertiary contexts

QATESOL’s role is to:

  • Provide professional development opportunities to TESOL, ESL and EAL/D teachers
  • Promote the study of teaching English to speakers of other languages qualifications
  • Provide leadership on issues relevant to a culturally diverse community
  • Advocate on behalf of our teachers and learners

QATESOL Activities and Initiatives:

  • QATESOL provides professional development and networking opportunities for TESOL professionals including workshops, conferences and seminars
  • Publishes a newsletter for QATESOL members 3 to 4 times a year
  • Advocates for the needs of TESOL teachers and our learners
  • Responds to local and national educational initiatives and policies on TESOL, EAL/D and ESL issues
  • Works with other states through the Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA)
  • Distributes ACTA information and publications to QATESOL members
  • Supports QATESOL members to attend professional learning opportunities
  • Disseminates relevant information from local, national and international sources
  • Promotes research in our field though the Anna Kohler fund and QATESOL Newsletter
