Peer Support Implementation Workshop - Hobart, TAS - 22 November 2016

The Peer Support Implementation Workshop is an interactive, enjoyable, full day of professional learning which provides teachers with the tools to coordinate an effective Peer Support Program and confidently train their Peer Leaders.

Attending a Peer Support Implementation Workshop is the essential first step to getting The Peer Support Program up and running at your school. It is an interactive, enjoyable, full day of professional learning which provides teachers with the tools to coordinate an effective Peer Support Program and confidently train their Peer Leaders. At least one teacher from each school must be trained at an Implementation Workshop, however we recommend that two teachers attend training.

                            

Time: 9am – 4pm

Cost: $250 per person (50% discount for second and subsequent teachers from the same school attending the same workshop)

 

The Workshop includes:
- a whole school approach to building and enhancing a positive school culture
- key underpinnings and impacts of the Program
- current research and statistics on the mental health of young people
- a model of best practice for implementation of The Peer Support Program
- links to curriculum, policy and other educational initiatives
- an action plan that will assist with implementation in your school
- Peer Leaders’ training materials
- networking and sharing ideas with other teachers

The Workshop includes time for planning and discussion of your specific school’s implementation plans. Having a colleague from your school to work with during this process is particularly valuable, although not essential.

 

Teacher Accreditation and Professional Development
The Implementation Workshop meets Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at the level of Proficient Teacher, Descriptors 3.5.2, 6.4.2, 6.3.2, 7.4.2. In NSW, teachers will receive 6 hours of BOSTES endorsed accreditation.

 

Resources
Once teachers have attended the Implementation Workshop, their school is eligible to purchase The Peer Support Program Manual and the individual educational Modules which include the 8 peer led sessions. The Resources are comprehensive and contain everything teachers need for training of Peer Leaders and implementation of the Program in their school.

 

About The Peer Support Program
The Peer Support Program is a peer led, skills based, experiential learning program that empowers young people to support each other and contribute positively to society. It provides students with a supportive learning environment in which to develop the skills, understandings, attitudes and strategies to improve their mental, social and emotional wellbeing. It develops key skills in resilience, assertiveness, decision making, problem solving and leadership. Importantly, it utilises a whole school approach to support positive cultural change and provides authentic leadership opportunities for Peer Leaders.
