Completing this workshop will contribute 6 hours of QTC Registered PD addressing Standards 7.1.4; 7.2.4 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Lead Teacher Accreditation in NSW. Proficient and Highly Accomplished teachers are welcome to attend this course, and will receive validation for the Course inclusive of QTC Registered professional development hours and Standard Descriptors.

Jaime's workshop will focus on the importance of professional capital as the source to sustain school culture that maximises student achievements. The workshop will draw on experience and research to articulate approaches to increasing staff capacity from hiring high quality candidates and inspiring current staff. It will explore ‘Coherence’ as a framework to inform leaders’ actions in guiding the direction of their organisations.

Jaime Rodriguez has taught for the last 20 years and fulfilled various leadership roles in secondary schools, systemic and Independent. He has been a Head of Secondary school in two Independent schools over the last 10 years. He holds various degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education, Master of Arts – Theological Studies, Master of Education, Master of Educational Leadership. Currently pursuing a research project at the University of New South Wales. Research topic: Leadership, relational trust and student learning outcomes. He has have been a Part-time Lecture at various Universities, including the University of New South Wales and the University of Wollongong.

Amy Cotton (Professional Officer, Independent Education Union of NSW)

In the afternoon session, Amy will discuss how school leaders have a number of pressures on their time, but maintaining wellness needs to be a priority for any leader. This workshop will focus on strategies that can be used to manage workloads, deal with diverse workplace personalities and maintain personal wellness in the increasingly accountability-driven education world. Maintaining and inspiring wellness in staff will also be discussed.

Amy Cotton is the Professional Officer, Independent Education Union of Australia NSW/ACT Branch. She develops responses to BOSTES policy and oversees strategic implementation of support for accreditation across the IEU’s NSW and ACT membership. She also develops the IEU’s large professional development program, which in 2016 has a focus on wellbeing and professional issues such as accreditation. Two of the IEU’s courses, Dealing with Difficult People and Voice Care are widely sought after as critical courses for continued wellbeing and health. Previously, Amy was a Policy Officer at the NSW Institute of Teachers (now BOSTES), and an English/History teacher at various NSW schools. She is currently a director and active volunteer/presenter with the NSW English Teachers Association. Amy is an op ed writer for SBS’s The Feed on education issues.
