    (Full time, permanent position to commence by Term 3 2017) 

     

    Due to an appointment of the current music teacher to a promotional leadership position in another Independent School, we seek an innovative, inspiring and experienced Pre-K to Year 6 Music Teacher. Instrumental conducting expertise is required for leading ensemble groups and the eclectic instrumental program. Expertise with band conducting is keenly sought.  The teacher appointed will be talented, innovative and inspiring; will collaborate positively with their colleagues and engage fully in the Christian and co-curricular life of the school.     Junior School Music Teacher Reports to: Head of Junior School

     

    ACCOUNTABILITIES: Class music 

    Develop class music programs which aim for a balance of the concept and activity areas 

    Identify the specific needs of girls to facilitate the development of an integrated, exciting, rigorous music program for students from Pre- Kindergarten (Transition) to Year 6  

    Program collaboratively and assist in the delivery of the class-based Years 2 and 3 Instrumental Program  

    Develop, administer and compile assessment procedures to inform the teaching practice 

    Work collaboratively in a team teaching situation with class teachers and colleagues within music department 

    Recognise the holistic needs of the students in the class and meet these needs with strong teaching practice and effective pastoral care

    Deal intellectually and professionally with colleagues in the development of music curriculum and school based documentation 

    Work in accordance with the Abbotsleigh code of professional conduct, OH&S and staff handbook 

    Undertake any other duties as directed from time to time.

    Work collaboratively and supportively with the Head of Junior School Music to ensure the continued delivery of the high standard and smooth running of the weekly co-curricular music program.  

    Develop repertoire and programs 

    Conduct / support some of the following groups: Concert and Junior Band, Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Poole House Strings, Bambini Strings, Small ensemble groups in strings, woodwind, and brass, Cantare (auditioned choir), Everett Choir (Years 5 and 6), Archdale Choir (Years 3 and 4), Primary Choir, Infants Choir, Years 5 and 6 Handbell Choirs

     

    SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: 

    Music teaching qualifications 

    Strong band, instrumental and conducting skills  

    The ability to accompany with piano is desirable
