An Introduction to the New Zealand Technology Curriculum for Secondary Teachers

This session is focussed on developing knowledge and understanding of the technology curriculum. This will include an interpretation of learning objectives, NCEA assessment and pedagogical strategies.

Participants will be supported to develop programmes of learning in technology, based on The New Zealand Curriculum and NCEA achievement standards from levels 1-3.

The three technology strands of Technological Practice, Technological Knowledge and Nature of Technology will be explored in detail. Understanding the requirements to implement NCEA standards in the senior secondary school and ideas on how to record student evidence will also be addressed.

The facilitator will encourage participants to join a collaborative network of technology teachers.

At the completion of the course participants will:

  • Understand the learning area of technology within The New Zealand Curriculum, and the implications for programme planning
  • Develop knowledge of effective pedagogical strategies in a technological context
  • Understand the NCEA assessment technology matrix and how to use it effectively to assess the learning of students
