Runcorn Heights State Primary School caters for students from Prep to Year 6. The school is situated on 5.591hectares in the suburban area of Runcorn on the south side of Brisbane. The school was established in 1975. The school campus includes 5 permanent teaching blocks, a double prep school unit, three modular teaching blocks, special education program, EAL/D & SEP blocks, administration block, an activities hall and a new Learning Resource Centre and Multipurpose Hall. The school also has four adventure playgrounds for students to develop fine and gross motor skills on. The Special Education Program (SEP) opened in 2003. Our school also features EAL/D (English as Additional Language/Dialect) classes, which caters for newly immigrated students with limited or no English language. Professional development for staff in teaching pedagogy, mathematics, literacy, assessment and reporting, ICT and general curriculum knowledge has been a feature that has contributed to the school's success. The school has achieved steady improvement in both academic and extra curricular programs. Extra curricular sports programs, music with choirs, orchestras and ensembles, school camping and a Japanese program are features of our school and are very successful. A range of interest clubs including chess, dance, computer studies, soccer and basketball have been introduced to support the children's needs in extra curricular activities and these have been well supported by the students and the community.
