The School Improvement Unit (SIU) supports continuous improvement in Queensland state schools and education centres. Its school reviews promote improvement and accountability while also providing schools with support and building the capability of principals.
In addition to operationalising school reviews, the SIU trains school leaders in the National School Improvement Tool, case manages schools requiring additional support, undertakes research and shares good practice across the system.
As the Director you will have responsibility for the following:
- Provide strategic liaison across the department and other government agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the SIU’s initiatives.
- Provide high level advice and strategic input to inform and influence policy development and major initiatives relating to the SIU’s activities and responsibilities.
- Lead the development, implementation and review of plans and methodologies to enable the effective implementation of a diverse range of significant policy and educational reforms in Queensland schools.
- Oversee projects and project teams to undertake planning, analysis, development and evaluation of significant stages of projects to ensure the achievement of strategic initiatives and objectives that inform the future position of the SIU.
- Lead the identification of potential risks and issues, and develop innovative strategies and solutions that support the SIU’s priorities.
- Manage all related project and program management activities to ensure the achievement of agreed objectives and outcomes within budget and on time.
- Participate in a variety of high profile forums, committees and working parties to ensure the interests of the department are effectively represented.
- Research, analyse and prepare complex briefs, reports, Cabinet submissions, policy responses and briefings for a wide audience, including for use at Ministerial and Director-General level.
- Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, formal arrangements and strategic partnerships with clients and stakeholders (both internal and external) on a diverse range of complex state schooling issues.
- Consult with executive management and senior officers on complex policy and operational issues to identify potential risks and opportunities for improvement.
