    This temporary vacancy is open to Expressions of Interest and accordingly any appointment (and extension to this appointment) will not extend beyond 12 months.

    Located in the heart of Cairns, Cairns West State School seeks to create the environment for success for all our students.The position reports to the Deputy Principal Student services.  The successful person is a member of the School Leadership Team.  You should demonstrate how you work effectively as a member of a team and make reference to your communication skills.  You should have a deep understanding of and preferably experience in working in a multiculturally diverse setting including working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students and parents.

    As Head of Curriculum at Cairns West State School you will assist in leading the upkeep, review and implementation of curriculum frameworks, pedagogy, programs, assessment and reporting.

    About the Role

    As a school leader you play a vital role in shaping the way we deliver education services to ensure students have the skills, knowledge and creativity to succeed in the global economy.

    As well as the roles described in the Head of Curriculum position description some key elements of this position include:

    • Supporting Deputy Principal with Behaviour Management
    • Early Behaviour Management Intervention with Tier 2 & 3 students
    • Analyse behaviour data to identify and support school and classroom intervention
    • Active member of the Positive Behaviour for Learning Committee
    • Active member of the Social Skilling Improvement System (SSIS) Implementation Committee
    • Plan, develop and implement Individual Behaviour Management Plans with teachers to support “in class” success for students
    • Conduct “mini classes” when required
    • Proactively engage with parents and community
    • Organise and coordinate alternative playtime activities for students
    • Coach and model Essential Skills for Classroom Management for teachers from Prep to year six
    • Supporting teachers to establish classroom routines and expectations aligned to school philosophy.

    1. Capacity to lead and manage curriculum reform/development activities at a school or cluster level.
    2. Capacity for effective management to achieve agreed curriculum goals.
    3. Demonstrated capacity to develop and manage interpersonal relationships and establish productive partnerships.
    4. Capacity for leading and managing change within the school environment.
    5. Capacity for being accountable for the outcomes based performance of the area of responsibility.
