Dr Jim Watterson, who has over 30 years of education experience, will assume the role in January.
“I am honoured to accept this position at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, and look forward to contributing further to the Australian education landscape alongside its highly accomplished team,” he says.
“The global reputation of the school provides a platform to anticipate and respond to the changing needs of the education sector, driving high impact research and managing future expectations for the profession.”
Watterson has broad experience as an educator, having worked as a teacher, a principal and an academic.
Adding to this impressive resume, Watterson has also held a number of leadership roles in government and education bodies.
He is currently the Director-General of the Queensland Department of Education and Training and has held the same role in the ACT, as well as being the former Deputy Secretary of the School Education Group in the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and the National President for the Australian Council for Education Leaders.
