Elizabeth Meuwly
Heritage College, Narre Warren, Vic

Liz works tirelessly with our learning support students. She invests significantly more of her time than she is paid in tutoring, preparing lesson materials for her own students, so that teachers don't have to, communicating with and supporting parents, and in learning about each child's conditions, situations and needs to offer assistance that is enriching and affirming to them. Liz worries for each student she works with as though they were her own children, and cares for the teachers as though we were her family, too. She has a generous spirit and offers all kinds of assistance to us in preparing our class spaces and takes the time to do the little things like making sure the urn is topped up before break so we can all grab a hot drink, or making sure there are enough bikkies. Liz is truly worth her weight in gold to us!

Theresa Calder
Kings Christian College, Gold Coast, Qld

Day after day, year after year you will find Theresa in a small room teaching phonics to struggling young kids. She is a teacher’s aid who is tireless and dedicated and humble in nature. Theresa places so much of herself into her job and works quietly behind classroom doors. Often no one sees the hours she pours into making a difference to the little ones. The students’ faces light up when it's their turn to walk through her door. They always leave feeling like they have achieved so much. Theresa works miracles and the students years later still talk about how she was the one who made a difference and gave them the gift of reading. Theresa is our school's Unsung Hero.

Kevin Malone
St Keiran’s Catholic Primary School, Manly Vale, NSW

Kevin is an 82-year-old volunteer who has given his services to our school and community of St Kieran's for more than 17 years. He is willingly 'on duty' from 6am until 4pm each day, rain, hail or shine. He assists the staff and students in many ways and our school would not be the same without his generosity and immeasurable support both in hours and in spirit. Kevin is a friend to all and above all keeps the students of St Kieran's in the forefront of his mind as he ushers them through the car park or to our oval during lunch time duties. We would like to acknowledge Kevin's many years of service at our school and would prefer to keep his nomination a surprise as he is extremely humble and wouldn't want any 'fuss' made about what he says 'gives him purpose.'

Melanie Grant
Bethany Lutheran Primary School, Raceview, Qld

My teacher aide, Mel, is my rock and without her my classroom would not be all that it could be. Not only does she support the students with such a caring and loving attitude, she also works with me to adjust the teaching to suit their needs. We often discuss and problem solve together and have a true collaborative partnership where she will help find ideas in content delivery, room arrangement and even displays to help meet the needs of our kids. Having Mel to work with and share ideas and thoughts as I plan and program each day/ week/ term shows me just how much of a treasure I am blessed with, in creating a classroom that has the benefit and wisdom of a lady who helps me to best create a loving, caring and supportive environment for our children and families.
