ADELAIDE, Feb 12 - Premier Jay Weatherill says the state's 114,000 public primary school students will receive lessons on computing coding as part of a $6.7 million investment to prepare them for the jobs of the future.

"Learning coding empowers students to be able to understand the technology shaping our world," Weatherill said in a statement on Monday.

The funding will go toward ensuring teachers have the necessary skills and capabilities to teach coding.

South Australians head to the polls on March 17.
