With over 125 years of history, Haileybury is one of the leading independent schools in the Asia-Pacific region with over 4,500 students across Australian campuses and one in Beijing. The School is acclaimed for its outstanding academic achievements, small class sizes, a broad range of co-curricular activities, and state-of-the-art facilities. Learning is based on the different learning styles of students, and on their gender, age, interests, and potential.
In January 2017, Haileybury opened its City campus in Melbourne for Years 0 through to 9. This change brought complexities in delivering professional development sessions to the staff, mainly due to issues around staff traveling to Keysborough campus from the City during peak hour traffic. A video conferencing solution was needed to solve this issue, and of course, provide a platform for students to collaborate in multiple real-time conversations happening across their Australian campuses as well as the campus in China.
BTC Direct and their Melbourne partner Macmor Electrical provided an affordable, easy-to-use video conferencing solution to improve cross-campus communication and enhance their students’ learning experience. Using the Zoom video conferencing platform, along with their recommended hardware solutions, BTC Direct and Macmor were able to provide Haileybury with a simple to use solution, enabling students and teachers with a convenient and accessible way to stream content and allow for interactivity.
BTC Direct's approach was centered on ease of operability providing a "Zero Touch" environment for the audio and video components of the rooms. For the video conferencing cameras they supplied AVer hardware, which are highly reliable cameras with a broad range of models for the different sizes of the rooms and uses needed. The AVer cameras feature exceptionally high Optical zoom, full HD 1080p 60fps providing a crystal-clear, smooth and lifelike image that gives coverage to the entire boardroom space.
Audio quality is critical for the effectiveness of the video conferencing experience. For that reason, they recommended the Biamp audio hardware collaboration tool. The Biamp Devio ceiling microphone tracks and intelligently mixes conversation from within the room providing a real-time, collaborative experience. Another important feature of the Devio is the acoustic echo cancellation technology (AEC) to diminish echo and feedback, as well as noise reduction to lessen or eliminate unwanted background noise.
BTC Direct was proud and honoured to have participated in this project that has made such an important and positive impact, not only on Haileybury students but on its teachers and employees. Please take a minute to look at the testimonies of Haileybury's Director of Learning Technologies -Lauren Sayer, Director Pre-Senior Curriculum, and Teaching - Bill Lewis and IT Service Team Leader - Dale Eaton about using Zoom software, AVer cameras and Biamp Devio audio solutions for their school video conferencing needs.
