The Rockhampton Grammar School is currently recruiting for Boys' Boarding Supervisors for join our thriving community and be an integral part of our Boys' Boarding.

We currently have the following positions in our team available:

  • full-time (term-time),
  • part-time (term-time) or
  • casual (term-time)

The successful applicant must be able to work a range of shifts including afternoons, evenings and weekends.

As this is a term-time position, there is no approved leave during the term. Any accumulated leave (part-time/full-time) must be taken during the school holidays. 

*A residential position is available for the right candidate.

The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school private school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,400 students (Prep to Year 12) who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

In conjunction with the Director of Boarding, Heads of Boarding, and Boarding Heads of Year you share the responsibility for the safety, welfare, behaviour, personal development, pastoral care and day to day management of RGS boarders.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILTIES 

  • Work as a member of the Boarding Team which is characterised by the highest ideals of teamwork, collegiality, integrity and professionalism;
  • report to the Director of Boarding, Heads of Boarding and Boarding Heads of Year;
  • in consultation with the Director of Boarding, Heads of Boarding, Boarding Heads of Year and other boarding staff, share the responsibility for the safety, welfare, behaviour, personal development and pastoral care of Boarders;
  • work always in accordance with the ideals of RGS Boarding as per the RGS Boarding Mission Statement;
  • works always in accordance with the ideals of the Australian Childhood Foundation Safeguarding Children Program and will complete the associated online training course;
  • work always with an awareness of The Rockhampton Grammar School policy documents, in particular the legal responsibilities in regard to the Child Protection Policy and Occupational Health and Safety Policy;
  • are committed to ongoing professional development;
  • welcome the opportunity for collaborative appraisal;
  • are good role models for our boarding community: ethical, reliable, punctual, proactive, well dressed and groomed;
  • maintain a visible and active presence in the House when on duty, never leaving the Boarding House without the consent of the responsible staff member;
  • participate and be committed to undertaking Boarding staff professional development (including a start of term/year whole of Boarding PD);
  • are encouraged to attend regular Boarding Management meetings (staff roster permitting);
  • voluntary attendance at School events, as requested to support Boarders;
  • are encouraged to contribute to the School’s co-curricular programme.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Dependent on the role and successful applicant, residential accommodation, inclusive of utilities, may be offered. Boarding assistants are entitled to meals in the dining room during their rostered shift. For residential assistants who reside in school-supplied accommodation, all meals during term time are included.

Residential roles, 12 hours per week - Residents are non-paid roles and are offered accommodation and meals as remuneration. 

Boarding staff uniform polo shirts are supplied, and boarding staff must wear these or other RGS corporate dress when on duty.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge and experience of providing pastoral support for students in residential care;
  • A clear understanding of the ABSA National Standards;
  • A clear understanding of the needs of students from a regional background;
  • Ability to build relationships with a range of students from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES 

  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card);
  • Police Check;
  • Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate;
  • ABSA Duty of Care (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid & Anaphylaxis Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process. 

Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to: 

  • Provide a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people;
  • Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services;
  • Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;
  • Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
  • Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
  • Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
  • Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
  • Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
  • Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.
