Auburn West PS is a
large primary school with a student cohort of approximately 600 students and 60
staff. The school currently has 25 classes K–6, with a number of the teachers on
class in their first five years of teaching. The remainder of staff teach in a
specialist role, including many who work in a part–time capacity. The school
executive comprises of Deputy Principal, 7 Assistant Principals (including roles funded through school funds), two
Instructional Leaders and the Principal. The Assistant Principals are mentor their stage or grade teams through team–teaching, demonstration
lessons and working side–by–side their team in the classroom and leading their own classroom. 98% of the
student population are from a non–English speaking background; the school has
significant funding support as it is identified as a low socio–economic
community.
