In this keynote Paul will use examples from the different content areas and different Year levels and will illustrate the key features of Reasoning Proficiency that glue the curriculum together. He will also address the arguments that we don’t have enough time for reasoning and that reasoning is only for the smart students.

Paul writes Mathematics related books and develops maths games. He works with teachers and school leaders to improve the teaching of mathematics.

Katherin Cartwright will be giving the closing keynote at the 2019 conference.

Can you give me a reason?

To reason is to think about something in a logical, sensible way, how do we uncover this in our students? How can we reveal their reasoning? Reasoning is a process, an action, a way of thinking. In this presentation Katherin will discuss these ideas, involving participants in the action of reasoning and will share ways to notice and develop reasoning in students.

Katherin Cartwright is a passionate mathematics educator and is currently a sessional lecturer and tutor at The University of Sydney teaching mathematics to primary education students. Katherin is also completing her PhD in mathematical fluency at The University of Sydney and is one of the school mentors for the university's Primary STEM Academy.
