Mackay Northern Beaches State High School is located 10km from the centre of Mackay in the growing Northern Beaches area of Mackay. The school opened in January 2013 and boasts modern facilities with the very latest state-of-the-art technology embedded across the curriculum. 

About the Role

This Head of Department position will be suited to an energetic and future-focused individual who has the ability to continue to grow the Science Faculty and influence positive student learning outcomes. Their practice needs to have a strong student-focused approach and ability to build strong professional relationships with students, teachers, parents and the community.

As the Head of Department (Science), you will play a vital role in developing the quality of teaching and learning and developing solid strategic practices for managing resources to achieve positive student learning outcomes. The successful applicant for this position will possess strong relational capabilities to ensure successful leadership across the faculty as well as participating in leadership of whole-school strategic initiatives.

As the Head of Department (Science), your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the school department to develop, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision focussed on providing quality learning outcomes for all students.
  • Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
  • Set high standards for student and staff performance.
  • Actively participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
  • Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
