The Hopevale Campus is located approximately 370km north of Cairns and just under 50km north-west of Cooktown in the Indigenous community of Hopevale. The Coen Campus is situated in Coen on the northern end of the Great Dividing Range and is surrounded by mountains. The township is 240 km from Laura and approximately 580 km north-west of Cairns.

About the Role

The Head of Department Student services will provide overall leadership of the student support services across CYAAA. Within this role you will develop, implement and lead a wellbeing program to assist students in their academic, social, emotional and cultural growth while also allowing case management for students identified as requiring support for engagement.

Within this role you will have the opportunity to:

  • Promote an inclusive culture and practices within the school community to ensure equity and excellence for students with diverse needs.
  • Develop and support a high quality of teaching and adjustments for students with additional needs in accordance to related legislation and policies.
  • Working closely with the Principal, this role will enhance the capacity of the two campuses to meet the growing needs of our diverse learners and promote inclusive practices within the school community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and guidance for the implementation of innovative practices aimed at improving student learning outcomes and engagement, with a particular focus on literacy
  • Provide management and engagement strategies and advise on specific academic, social and emotional needs of students
  • Monitor students' individual performance and behaviour and develop and implement intervention strategies where necessary.
  • Nurture positive relationships between students, teachers and community
  • Prepare all data returns for the Principal.

About You

  • Our ideal applicants should have a strong working knowledge of inclusive practices as well the supports and interventions that can be used to assist diverse learners engage with the Australian Curriculum and NCCD requirements.
  • You must provide leadership and direction for the whole school as it relates to diverse learners and inclusive practices across all learning areas and phases with a particular focus on literacy.
  • This role has a requirement to case manage Extensive and Substantial students within our Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), and lead a support staff team to improve learning outcomes for all students.
  • Ideally you should have experience in NCCD and PLP processes to improve student outcomes.
  • Capacity for leading and managing change within the school environment and school community.
