These free and interactive sessions allow students to have the opportunity to chat with expert sheep, cattle and goat farmers from around the country.

For teachers looking for well resourced educational opportunities that are curriculum linked and relevant, the Smart Farming Virtual Classrooms hit the mark. The 30 minute sessions engage students through a combination of fun facts, quizzes, live Q&As and sing-alongs for the younger students. Sessions can also be followed up with additional classroom activities and resources from the Australian Good Meat website to extend the learning.

The live video streams are divided into three distinct focus areas and have been specifically designed to suit either lower or upper primary school students. Teacher can choose from a range of agricultural topics such as:

  • The Sustainable Farm - In this session, students will explore how farmers care for their environment and their animals along with the benefits that come with using sustainable practices and regenerative farming methods to manage a modern farm.
  • Technology on the Farm - Here students will discover how farming technology has changed in Australia, the types of technology farmers use and how this technology improves their farming business.
  • Beyond the Farm - Aimed at upper primary, farmers discuss the wider red meat sector and food supply chain, educating on its importance to the Australian economy and the different types of jobs in the industry. Students will also find out why red meat is nutritionally valuable to fuel their bodies and how they can benefit from better understanding the paddock to plate journey.

All sessions are linked to the national Australian curriculum in a cross-curricular manner targeting Foundation to Year 6 students by bringing together learnings from:

  • science;
  • geography;
  • design and technologies and;
  • economics and business.

Australian Good Meat also provides teachers with optional tasks to extend learning with easy to use, digital or printable worksheets for their students.
