Resource Description

The VCE Pathways Numeracy Toolkit Unit 1 is a new release print and go book designed to meet the specific learning needs of high school students who are completing the Unit 1 Pathways certificate (VPC). Many high school students with additional learning needs prefer easy reading text with modified activities and tasks that are achieveable and success focused. They enjoy age appropriate tasks that are suitable for their age and stage of development, where the focus is on moving towards independence at home, school and in the community.

Although sometimes VCE Pathways students have a lower level of skill and knowledge in numeracy, they generally don't enjoy activities which are designed for early primary aged students. Instead, they often prefer modified activities based on the things that most teens enjoy - planning their own days out, spending time with friends, learning about their own community and building independent travel skills. The resource takes a problem solving approach, designed to support growing independence in learning and community skills. Students are encouraged to develop, apply and reflect on their growing numeracy skills in location, direction and position, systematics and core numeracy skills.

This is why the VCE Pathways Numeracy Toolkit Unit 1 has been developed - to support older students with additional learning needs to experience success in numeracy by doing age appropriate, independence focused activities.

What's inside?

The toolkit includes over 70 pages of content and information focused on the requirements of Unit 1 Numeracy for VPC students:

Skill builder  - to encourage independent learning, core sklls, adult learning focus and goal setting.

Location - to develop key skills in working with the language of position, orientation and direction, and to encourage independence in the local community while participating in excursions, daily living and community activities

Systematics - to develop skills in working with number and process, so students can use a range of tools to manage simple tasks including shopping, using recipes, working with tables, graphs and charts, recording and communicating ideas about data and building independence in designing learning experiences that are personally relevant and useful.

Reflections - to support students in reflecting on their successes, setting new goals for the future and recording information about their own learning.

The Pathways Toolkit for Numeracy is aligned with the requirements of Unit 1, and is a downloadable, printable book, so you can print and go.
