Mudgee
High School is a school of 850 students, 105 of whom identify as being
Aboriginal. It is a rural comprehensive school catering for students from Years
7-12. It is located in the Central West of New South Wales in a region
well-known for its agriculture, viticulture, tourism and mining. The school was
identified at the close of 2017 as being “highly above average” with regard to
academic achievement. The school also has a proud history of sporting, social
and cultural achievement. The school’s student well-being policy focuses on
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L), recognition of achievement, and strong
relationships with families. The broad curriculum offered allows access to a
wide range of courses for both university and non-university educational
pathways and employment. Junior elective courses are vertically integrated. The
school has a strong relationship with its supportive community, including an
active Parents and Citizens’ Association. Year 12 students each year engage in
charity fundraising that involves the entire community, and local businesses
and industries support our students and staff with expertise and resources. A
supportive Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) works with staff to
realise DoE Aboriginal Education and Training Policies as well as school
programs to enhance opportunities for Aboriginal students and encourage
parental involvement. Programs for gifted and talented students foster a love
of learning and capacity to strive for excellence. Modern science laboratories,
a Trade Training Centre, creative and performing arts facilities, a gymnasium,
technology workshops and a state of the art library resource centre all support
the development of well-rounded learners.
