Wollongong Public School has a current enrolment of 513 students and serves a community with high expectations supported by both an active P&C and a Community Hub. It is located in the CBD of the city and is the oldest school in Wollongong, featuring historical buildings and a compact playground. As it is growing school, work is currently under way to provide ten new teaching spaces which are expected to be on-line during 2020. The school community is a reflection of the rich cultural diversity of the city and 58% of our students come from a non-English speaking background, while 2% are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage. The school has a blend of early career and experienced staff who are committed to providing all students with educational opportunities that allow them to fulfil their potential in a caring and supportive environment. The school hosts 2 district Opportunity Classes in Stage 3 and there is a focus on supporting gifted and talented students across the school as well as maximising outcomes for our highly diverse student population. A current priority is the strong analysis of internal and external data to inform the school evaluation and planning processes. The school also provides programs in performing arts, public speaking, chess, sustainability and sport. The school has a strong commitment to student well-being.
